About Me

" I believe that songs are small moments of magic, a gift from God to the songwriter  and from the songwriters’ heart to yours"

Hi ,My name is Ken Shelton. I really appreciate you visiting my web site! Let me begin by saying that I'm not famous nor am I in this to make money. I simply hope that you will hear or read something that will touch you in a positive way.  Some of my songs like Tomcat Love and the Sign came from my imagination ...others like Gypsy Stars and Me had to be lived first before they could be written. Whatever talent I may possess as a songwriter, I believe to be a gift from God. I am and always will be grateful !

                                                                 My Influences

I would be terribly amiss if I failed to include my influences. There are so many artist from so many genres that I really don't know where to begin !Not surprisingly ,my list is comprised of singer/songwriters.Jimmy Webb,Carol King,Paul Williams and Burt Bacharach/Hal David would most definitely head the list...followed by Jim Weatherly,Dan Fogelberg ,Harry Chapin ,Tom Waits, Kris Kirstofferson and Leonard Cohen and on and on..

                                                               Ragamuffin Music ?

My voice is a "raspy mess" caused by too many smokes and nights of being where I shouldn’t have been ! When you couple it with a pretty melody the results are like something you've probably never heard....consider this a "heads up" !  lol Since my music doesn’t easily fit into traditional genres, I decided to create my own, which I call Ragamuffin Music. Since I created the genre, I guess I can define it like I want, right?...so here goes ! Ragamuffin Songs are born in a place somewhere between fairy tales and faded dreams. They very rarely fit in just one genre. Ragamuffin songs are never clearly or easily defined. These songs are often written in either first person or story style about broken or ragged characters. The melody is often bluesy or melancholic, with an occasional country or sometime folksy feel. The majority of my songs most definitely belong in this genre. I am a "Ragamuffin Christian" so it makes sense that I write songs that other Ragamuffin Christians can relate to....maybe someone like you.

I believe that songs are small moments of magic, a gift from God to the songwriter and from the songwriters’ heart to yours. They have a way of touching us in a way that few things can. I hope one of my songs somehow touches you in a special way. While you're at my site I hope you'll visit the other pages, and where possible participate in the projects.

                                                                                                                         Ken

Ken, I loved your songs. I did not know about your son. I lost my boy at an earlier age but the pain never goes away.

Ken, I should have mentioned that some of us have spent a life that at times was like described in Dan Fogelberg’s “Scarecrow’s Dream”. Oh how blessed we are at times step into that zone “Between the World of Men and Scarecrow’s Dreams” Bless you and your songs that come from your heart and touch our hearts. See you down the road dear friend.

Ken , We have been friends since our days at MSU back in 1968 and will be for eternity my brother in Christ. These days are dark and storms are coming even more so but Now it is from evil within our borders. But stay strong and keep your music coming. Yes your “Page in History” and River flows to Heaven but not yet - we have battles to fight that are coming. It will be our finest hour. To quote Dan Fogelberg in his song “River of Souls”: To every man the Mystery sings a different song. He fills his page of History. Dreams his dreams and then he is gone.”
